Find out moreOnce the first salt trucks roll out across Montreal, many Bentley owners decide their car has earned a rest. A grand tourer that spent the summer on the roads to the Laurentians and the Eastern Townships can sit out the slush, the potholes and the brine that coat city streets from November to April.
Putting a Bentley away for the winter takes a little more than finding a parking spot. A good hibernation season comes down to three separate jobs: preparing the car itself, completing Quebec’s storage process with the SAAQ, and keeping the right insurance in place. Here is what each one involves.
The simplest way to set the car up properly is to book it in before it goes away. Bentley-trained technicians use specialist diagnostic and repair equipment on cars of any age or mileage, and a pre-storage visit lets them check the car’s condition and lay out the exact steps for your model and powertrain.
That visit matters more on a pre-owned Bentley than on most cars. Two Bentaygas or two Continental GTs from different years can carry different batteries and electrical systems, and hybrid models add a high-voltage battery with its own care needs. Ask the service team to walk you through battery care, tire setup and anything else your specific car needs over a long, cold stand.
It is also a good time to book detailing. Montreal’s late-fall roads leave salt residue and grime behind, and a clean car is a better starting point for months under a cover. The Bentley service department also offers collection and delivery, so the car does not need to make one last salty drive across town.
Flat spots are a common issue on any car that sits for months. Bentley’s own tire cradles are built for this situation: a set of four that support the tires during long periods without driving and help prevent flat spotting.
A cover completes the job. Bentley’s indoor car covers are tailored to each model and guard against dust and scratches in a garage or an underground parking space, a description that fits plenty of Montreal condo garages. Bentley also makes outdoor covers for cars that spend the season outside.
If you would rather keep the car on the road for the occasional crisp, dry winter day, the service team also handles seasonal tire storage and installation, so a set of winter tires can go on before December 1.
In Quebec, parking a car for the winter and storing it with the SAAQ are two different things. Remisage is the SAAQ’s formal storage status for a vehicle you plan to drive again. You can apply online through SAAQclic or in person, either ahead of time or on the day storage begins.
A few rules come with it:
Déremisage, the return to the road, works differently. It must be requested on the day you want to drive the car again and cannot be booked in advance. You can complete it on SAAQclic or in person, and you pay registration for the full current month plus the rest of the period up to your usual renewal month.
One rule is worth knowing before you buy a pre-owned car that has been sitting. A vehicle stored for more than 12 months must pass a mechanical verification before it returns to the road, and for a purchased vehicle, that clock runs from the previous owner’s storage date. Asking about a car’s storage history is a smart part of any pre-owned purchase.
Spring is also a natural moment for a check-up with the service team before the first drive back up the A-15.
The SAAQ transaction and your insurance policy are separate. Storing the car with the SAAQ handles its registration status, while your insurer handles the protection on the Bentley itself. Cancelling the policy outright would leave a parked car exposed to theft, fire or damage while it sits.
Call your insurer before the car goes into storage. Ask if your policy includes a storage option, which protections stay in force while the car is parked, and the date full coverage returns. Settle that date well before your first spring drive.

Before the snow settles in, reach out to the Bentley service team at Decarie Motors in Montreal to book a pre-storage visit and talk through what your car needs for the months ahead. A calm, well-planned winter makes the first spring drive that much better.
