Jaguar's entry-level X-Type has just undergone a refreshing for 2008, and is set to enter the luxury car market with an extensive list of new features and hardware.

Some 500 components have been updated, and the British luxury carmaker says that the refresh is intended to keep the strengths of the original car, while adding some new ones.

"The new X-TYPE stands for accessibility, versatility, luxury and choice within the Jaguar range ", said CJ O'Donnell, Global Marketing Director at Jaguar. "The package of revisions - particularly the automatic transmission in the 2.2 diesel - presents our established dealers and the key emerging markets with an excellent opportunity to reach new customers and retain existing owners."

X-Type's exterior is now closer in line with Jaguar's sedan styling language, and carries a less rounded grille to make it look like its new big brother, the XF. Updates are found inside as well, and more choice is available to buyers in terms of trim levels and equipment.

A diesel engine will also be fitted to the model range for the first time- mating a 2.2 litre diesel mill with a six-speed automatic transmission featuring one-touch Jaguar Sequential Shift for rewarding performance and enhanced mileage. Jaguar says this option helps push the X-Type's appeal even further.

Available in sedan or wagon versions, the new X-Type goes on sale in the UK this March before being released across Europe.
